Respiratory Illness Report: Week 39 (9/27/2026 - 10/3/2026)
In week ending Oct. 3, local emergency department and clinical laboratory data showed elevated activity for influenza and COVID-19, while indicators for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remained minimal. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected influenza A, rhinovirus, and SARS-CoV-2 among clinical respiratory specimens.
1.4% of emergency department (ED) visits were attributable to influenza, 0.7% were attributable to COVID-19, and zero visits were attributable to RSV. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported 45 positive influenza tests (43 influenza A, two influenza B; 7.2% of specimens tested), zero positive RSV tests (0.0% of specimens tested), and 42 positive COVID-19 tests (6.6% of specimens tested).
On average, fewer than 10 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 or influenza patients.
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there have been two COVID-19 outbreaks reported in the past four reporting weeks, and two influenza outbreaks.
