Our vision: A safe and healthy Kitsap County for all.
Youth Cannabis Prevention
Cannabis (marijuana) is a drug that is used recreationally and medicinally.
It is illegal for people under 21 to buy or use recreational marijuana in Washington state.
People who start using cannabis earlier in life increase their risk of developing certain health issues.

Our Role
Kitsap Public Health District is committed to reducing substance use among youth. Recreational cannabis is one of the substances that we have prioritized for prevention because of its harmful effects on youth.
You can find the Youth Cannabis & Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program (YCCTPP) 2024-2025 Needs Assessment here.
We work to prevent substance use and promote healthy behaviors among youth through education, community engagement, and strengthening connections within our region.
Together, we can keep youth safe and healthy.

How can I keep my teens safe?
Keep talking to your kids. Your words matter!
Your kids are listening, even when it doesn't feel like it. Teens still say their parents, guardians, and teachers are their most trusted source of information.
It’s never too early to talk to your kids about how using substances can affect their health. If teens hear from friends and family that cannabis, alcohol, and other substances are bad, they are less likely to try them.
What should I say?
Every family is different. Make sure you are honest and open.
Remind them you care.
Remind them you are always ready to listen.
Share why taking care of their health is important.
Engage in fun, healthy activities together.
