Respiratory Illness Report: Week 43 (10/25/2026-10/31/2026)
In week ending Oct. 31, local indicators for influenza and COVID-19 remained elevated, with influenza-associated emergency department visits continuing to increase. Indicators for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) were low, with local clinical labs beginning to report positive detections. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected influenza A, rhinovirus, and SARS-CoV-2 among clinical respiratory specimens.
2.0% of emergency department (ED) visits were attributable to influenza, 0.6% were attributable to COVID-19, and fewer than 10 visits were attributable to RSV. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported 73 positive influenza tests (71 influenza A, two influenza B; 12.6% of specimens tested), five positive RSV tests (4.0% of specimens tested), and 21 positive COVID-19 tests (3.7% of specimens tested).
On average, fewer than 10 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 or influenza patients.
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there have been two COVID-19 outbreaks reported in the past four reporting weeks, and one influenza outbreak.
