Black Infant Thrive is dedicated to a future where every Black birthing family in Kitsap has access to quality healthcare, a strong support system, and a safe and healthy birthing outcome. We’re doing this by:

  • Promoting welcoming and culturally appropriate prenatal and postpartum care

  • Increasing social networks for Black families to build communities of support

  • Fostering civic engagement and community leadership to improve maternal health

  • Strengthening partnerships with local organizations to improve maternal services

Everyone deserves a safe and healthy birthing experience.

In Kitsap County, mortality for Black babies is more than three times higher than for white babies. Only half of Black pregnant people reported receiving adequate prenatal care in 2021-2023.

In the U.S., Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. Black babies have the greatest risk of dying before their first birthday out of any racial group.

Black Infant Thrive is dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes for Black families by advocating for better healthcare, building supportive communities, and strengthening local partnerships.

This program is for all Black families:

  • Spouses and partners

  • Grandparents, aunties, uncles, and kin

  • Anyone supporting a Black birthing journey
