Respiratory Illness Report: Week 38 (9/20/2026 - 9/26/2026)
Note: We are beginning weekly respiratory surveillance reporting early due to early rises in seasonal influenza indicators.
In week ending September 26, local emergency department and clinical laboratory data showed increasing activity for influenza and COVID-19, while indicators for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remained minimal. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected influenza A, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), and rhinovirus among clinical respiratory specimens.
1.4% of emergency department visits were attributable to influenza, 1.2% were attributable to COVID-19, and zero visits were attributable to RSV. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported 60 positive influenza tests (57 influenza A, 3 influenza B; 9.3% of specimens tested), zero positive RSV tests (0.0% of specimens tested), and 43 positive COVID-19 tests (6.5% of specimens tested).
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there has been one influenza and one COVID-19 outbreak reported in the past four reporting weeks.
