Respiratory Illness Report: Week 33 (8/16/2026 - 8/22/2026)

PLEASE NOTE: Due to delays in laboratory reporting, week 33 lab surveillance data will be updated online Monday, Aug. 31.
In week ending Aug 22, emergency department visits for influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and COVID-19 remained minimal. Local laboratory surveillance shows recent increases in SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) detection, mirroring increases observed in wastewater around the Puget Sound region. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected rhinovirus and SARS-CoV-2 among clinical respiratory specimens.
Fewer than 10 emergency department (ED) visits were attributable to influenza, RSV or COVID-19.
On average, fewer than 10 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 or influenza patients.
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there have been no COVID-19 or influenza outbreaks reported in the past four reporting weeks.
