In week ending Jan. 17, local indicators for influenza remained high, while indicators for COVID-19 remained minimal. Emergency department (ED) visits attributable to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remained high, but were beginning to decrease, both in Kitsap County and in other Puget Sound jurisdictions. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected influenza A and RSV among clinical respiratory specimens.
1.9% of emergency department visits were attributable to influenza, and fewer than 10 were attributable to COVID-19 or RSV. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported two positive COVID-19 tests (0.3% of specimens tested), 92 positive influenza tests (90 influenza A, 2 influenza B; 13.3% of specimens tested), and 15 positive RSV tests (9.2% of specimens tested).
On average, fewer than 10 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 or influenza patients.
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there has been one COVID-19 outbreak reported in the past four reporting weeks, and no influenza outbreaks.
