Kitsap Public Health District is seeking its next health officer.
The Health District opened an application period for the position this week, with an initial review of applicants scheduled for Jan. 12.
Under Washington state law, a local health officer is a medical doctor and public health expert tasked with controlling and preventing diseases, enforcing public health rules, and promoting public health. The health officer also serves as a key leader in the community, strengthening partnerships and championing strategies to create a safe and healthy Kitsap County for all.
Previous health officer Dr. Gib Morrow resigned from the Health District in September. Dr. Herbie Duber is serving as interim health officer.
