For the past 11 years, the Kitsap County Lactation Coalition (KCLC) has hosted a baby lounge during the Kitsap Fair. The KCLC helps create a quiet place for moms to relax, feed their babies, and change diapers. The lounge also offers information about lactation and parenting resources across Kitsap County, including Kitsap Public Health District services and WIC programs.

About 50 moms and their children stopped by the lounge over the four days of the fair. Parents appreciated that they had a cool, comfortable place to feed their babies away from the heat and busyness of the fair. One mom said, “this is such a relaxing place to come and feed my baby away from the chaos!”

This year, the baby lounge featured displays highlighting breastfeeding cultures and traditions from around the world. Nurse, volunteer, and coalition member Janet Wyatt said, “it’s interesting that across all cultures there’s this focus on bonding with their baby and feeding their babies and resting and caring for themselves. We just have different ways to do it.”
