Health Equity Collaborative

Note: The Health Equity Collaborative was sunset in September 2026. Our commitment to health equity and meaningful engagement with the community continues. Thank you to all the organizations and community members who participated in the Collaborative.

From 2022 to 2026, the Kitsap Health Equity Collaborative (HEC) brought together public health professionals, healthcare partners, and community leaders to co-create solutions to address structural inequities and promote policy- and system-level changes within the county.


The Health Equity Collaborative's activities were named in Health Board Resolution 2021-01, Declaring Racism a Public Health Crisis:


“The Board and the Kitsap Public Health District commit to work to advance a public health approach in addressing institutional and systemic racism, including […] partnering with community to co-create solutions to address structural inequities.”

The Health Equity Collaborative met every other month and focused collective action on three priority areas:


  • Accessible medical care

  • Accessible mental health services

  • Affordable housing

Eight separate hands of all different ethnicities are on top of each other, going "all hands in."

Equity

HEC Vision Statement


Everyone in Kitsap County can achieve their optimal health and safety, and no one is disadvantaged in achieving these outcomes because of systemic inequities or systems of oppression, including racism.


HEC Mission Statement


The Kitsap Health Equity Collaborative convenes to identify and implement shared solutions and collective actions, promote pro-equity policies, and amplify the voices of communities most affected by systemic inequities, including racism.

Equality: Everyone get's the same - regardless if it's needed or right for them. People approaching a curb leading to a crosswalk. A child and an adult are able to step off the curb onto the sidewalk. A person in a wheelchair and an older adult with impaired vision are stopped at the edge of the curb.
Equality: Everyone gets what they need - understanding the barriers, circumstances, and conditions. A child, an adult, a person in a wheelchair, and an older adult with impaired vision are successfully traveling over a gentle ramp leading to a crosswalk. Lights, symbols, and audio signals help guide them.

What is Equity?

Equity ensures that each individual has what they need, recognizing their individual barriers, circumstances, and conditions.​
