In week ending Nov. 15, local indicators for COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remained minimal. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected rhinovirus among clinical respiratory specimens, with influenza A and RSV detections beginning to rise. In addition, the Washington State Department of Health issued a media release on Nov. 14 regarding a single case of avian influenza H5N5 in a Grays Harbor County resident with exposure to backyard poultry. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and DOH currently consider the risk to the public from avian influenza to be low.
Fewer than 10 emergency department (ED) visits were attributable to COVID-19, influenza, or to RSV. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported 13 positive COVID-19 tests (3.3% of specimens tested), six positive influenza tests (five influenza A, one influenza B; 1.7% of specimens tested), and two positive RSV tests (2.1% of specimens tested).
On average, fewer than 10 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 or influenza patients.
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there has been one COVID-19 outbreak reported in the past four reporting weeks, and no influenza outbreaks.
