Respiratory Illness Report: Week 37 (9/13/2026 - 9/19/2026)
Note: We are beginning weekly respiratory surveillance reporting early due to early rises in seasonal influenza indicators.
In week ending Sept. 19, local emergency department and clinical laboratory data showed increasing influenza and COVID-19 activity, while indicators for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remained minimal. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected influenza A, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), and rhinovirus among clinical respiratory specimens.
1.2% of emergency department visits were attributable to influenza, 0.9% were attributable to COVID-19, and zero visits were attributable to RSV. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported 65 positive influenza tests (59 influenza A, six influenza B; 9.0% of specimens tested), zero positive RSV tests (0.0% of specimens tested), and 46 positive COVID-19 tests (7.1% of specimens tested.
On average, 11 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 patients and fewer than 10 for influenza patients.
At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there have been no influenza or COVID-19 outbreaks reported in the past four reporting weeks.
