The ongoing government shutdown is affecting thousands of Kitsap County community members.
Disruptions to federal employment and assistance programs such as SNAP (known as the Basic Food program in Washington) could make it harder for many Kitsap families to afford everyday essentials, including food. As of 2023, about one in 10 (11,000 total) Kitsap County households received food support from SNAP, including one in five Bremerton households.
See the list of services below if you need food or other resources. Be sure to check each organization’s website or call ahead to confirm the hours they are open and the services they provide.
With demand for services increasing throughout the county, many local food banks and community organizations are also in urgent need of donations and volunteers. Contact organizations directly to learn more.
