Why Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding is Important
Breast/chest milk offers great nutrition for babies
Breast milk has the right amount of fat, sugar, water, protein, and minerals needed for a baby's growth and development.
As your baby grows, your milk changes to adapt to the baby's changing nutritional needs.
Breast/chest milk helps protect babies from health problems
Breast milk shares antibodies from the nursing parent with their baby.
These antibodies help babies develop a strong immune system and protect them from illnesses.
Breastfeeding/chestfeeding has health benefits for the parent, too!
Breastfeeding can help the uterus to return to its normal size more quickly and may decrease the amount of bleeding you have after giving birth.
People who breastfeed have lower rates of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and type 2 diabetes.
Fed is Best
Kitsap Public Health recognizes that there are many different ways to feed your infant. A healthy baby and a healthy parent are our biggest priorities. We are here to support you in whatever feeding method is right for you.
