Accreditation
Kitsap Public Health District has been accredited by the national Public Health Accreditation Board since 2015.
This designation means our Health District has met rigorous quality standards and measures as a high-performing public health agency and is committed to continuous innovation and improvement.
Kitsap Public Health District receives a mix of local, state, and federal money to provide services that keep Kitsap County residents safe and healthy. View current and past budgets below for full details on revenue and spending.
The Kitsap Public Health Board approves the Health District's budget. The Health District's finances are reviewed each year by the Washington State Auditor's Office. Budgets and audit reports are posted below.
Foundational Public Health Services (FPHS) are core public health services needed to protect the health of all residents. Often, these services are not fully paid for by contracts, grants, fees and other traditional funding sources.
Kitsap Public Health receives FPHS funding through the Washington State Department of Health to ensure vital public health services are available in our county. See our Budget page for more information about how we are funded.
Essential services supported by FPHS in Kitsap County include:
Communicable disease control
Chronic disease & injury prevention
Environmental public health
Maternal, child, & family health
Access to & linkage with clinical care
FPHS funding also strengthens “foundational capabilities,” including communications, equity, emergency preparedness, health assessment and surveillance, policy development, among other functions.
Health Board Resolution Supporting FPHS
On Feb. 23, 2026, the Kitsap Public Health Board approved a resolution "Calling on the Washington State Legislature to Reaffirm That Public Health is Essential and to Maintain Foundational Public Health Services Funding."
Under the resolution, the Board called on the Legislature to take steps to support core services in all communities and allow public health to continue to rebuild its statewide system with added efficiency.
