Tobacco and the Media

Despite heavy restrictions imposed as part of the national litigation settlement with tobacco companies, smoking continues to be promoted as an attractive habit in movies and TV. Studies indicate that media images influence young people to feel good about using tobacco products. The following links show how media works against youth staying tobacco-free, and provides tools that both youth and adults can use to combat media influences.

Studies about movies’ influence and information about how you can use advocacy to help eliminate smoking in movies with less than an “R” rating.
